QUILT AFRICA CHALLENGES

Make it, together.

Every so often we open a challenge — a shared theme, a cloth, and a few weeks of making alongside quilters all over the world. This is where they live.

WHAT IS A CHALLENGE?

A gentle nudge to actually begin.

A challenge is a shared invitation built around a particular African cloth or idea. You read the fabric, make something with it at your own pace, and share it with a whole community doing the very same thing. No pressure, no prizes to chase — just the courage that comes from not making alone.

HAPPENING NOW

Read the Cloth

Our signature challenge — and where the whole cloth way begins. Come and know a cloth deeply: its story, its value, its character. Then make your first intentional piece with it, alongside the tribe. This season we’re reading akwete and Ankara.

THE STORY SO FAR

Challenges we’ve made together.

Each challenge leaves a trail of beautiful work — quilts made by women who simply said yes to beginning.

African Christmas

Mother & Child

Read the Cloth: Akwete

Reading the handwoven cloth of the Igbo — its geometry, history, and weight in a quilt.

African Christmas

A festive challenge in African prints — reimagining the season in wax print, colour, and the warmth of home.

Mother & Child

Telling a tender story in cloth — the bond of mother and child, built in fabric collage, one careful layer at a time.

NEVER MISS ONE

Be first to know when the next challenge opens.
